St Canice's Cathedral
The name "Kilkenny" itself is derived from the Irish Cill Chainnigh, meaning 'Church of St. Canice". Built in the 13th century, it has an impressive wooden ceiling, lovely stained glass windows & expertly
carved tombs - and as an added attraction, gravestones scattered in front, none of which seemed to have a name on them. In 1650 Oliver Cromwell attempted to ruin it be stabling his horses inside,
but it was restored again in 1661. The tower alongside is 30M high, and was part of the original church that was built in 849 A.D.
